# \pdfoutput

`\pdfoutput[=]` *geheel getal*

* “`[=]`” betekent dat het gelijkteken optioneel is.

De `\pdfoutput` commando wordt gebruikt om aan te geven of het bestand dat door pdfTeX wordt geproduceerd in DVI- of PDF-formaat moet zijn. Een positieve waarde van *geheel getal* betekent uitvoer in PDF-formaat, anders is de uitvoer in DVI-formaat.

**Voorbeeld van gebruik**

* `\pdfoutput=1` stelt het uitvoerformaat in op PDF
* `\pdfoutput=0` stelt het uitvoerformaat in op DVI

#### DVI: nog steeds nuttig

DVI staat voor *apparaatonafhankelijk* en is het oorspronkelijke bestand [uitvoerformaat voor TeX-engines](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Device_independent_file_format). Hoewel het DVI-formaat is vervangen door PDF, blijft het uiterst nuttig voor speciale nabewerkingsoperaties zoals het converteren van opgemaakte uitvoer naar SVG met [dvisvgm](https://dvisvgm.de/) of het genereren van HTML vanuit TeX/LaTeX met tools zoals [TeX4ht](http://www.tug.org/tex4ht/).
