# Including displayed mathematics (equations and formulae)

This is the 11th video in a series of 21 by [Dr Vincent Knight](http://bit.ly/186ai3Z) of Cardiff University. In addition to [including mathematics within a sentence](/latex/questions-and-answers/72-including-inline-mathematics-in-latex-documents.md), we can display equations and formulae on their own. In this tutorial we see how to write simple equations, and introduce the commands `\frac` for fractions and `\sum` for summations.
